Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to resolve them quickly.
Server fails to start or crashes immediately
This is usually caused by missing runtime dependencies or corrupted game files during the SteamCMD download process.
Solution:
Verify that you have installed the necessary DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables required by the specific game. You can also use the "Verify Files" option within WGS to re-check the integrity of the server files.
Players cannot connect (Server Invisible)
If the server is running locally but external players cannot find or join it, network traffic is likely being blocked.
Solution:
Ensure that you have correctly port forwarded the game's specific ports (both UDP and TCP) in your router settings. Additionally, check that the Windows Advanced Firewall is not blocking incoming connections to the server executable or WGS.
Port Conflict Error
WGS throws an error stating that the port is already in use when attempting to launch a dedicated server.
Solution:
Another application or an orphaned server instance is already occupying that port. Close any background instances via Windows Task Manager, or change the server query/game port in the WGS instance configuration panel.
